Email setup on Android

Steps to set up your corporate email account on Android phones and tablets. The look of the screens varies by manufacturer and version; the field names are the same.

Android phones and tablets 5 steps
Before You Start

Have these ready

All the values you will use during setup are below. Replace yourdomain.com with your own domain name; the username is always your full email address, not just the "name" part.

Incoming mail servermail.yourdomain.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)mail.yourdomain.com
UsernameYour full email address
IMAP port993 (SSL/TLS)
POP3 port995 (SSL/TLS)
SMTP port587 (STARTTLS)

Want the values filled in for your own address?

The step-by-step email setup wizard asks for your email app and address, then guides you through every screen with settings tailored to your address. We never ask for your password.

Android account setup

Because automatic setup guesses the wrong server for corporate addresses, we proceed with manual setup.

Select the account type

In the list that appears, choose IMAP account. If you only want to keep mail on a single device, you can choose POP3; if you also want to synchronize calendars and contacts, you can choose Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

In the screenshot the red frame is on the "POP3 account" row; if you will use IMAP, select the IMAP account row.

Step 3 / 5

Enter the incoming server settings

Type your full email address in the username field. When you set the security type to SSL/TLS, the port usually changes by itself; if it does not, correct it manually.

Where You Got Stuck

Frequently asked questions

There is no Manual Setup button
In some manufacturers' apps this button appears as "Manual setup" or "Other". If none exists, you can proceed with the same details by choosing the Other account type in the Gmail app.
My manufacturer's app is different from these screens
The email apps of Samsung, Xiaomi and others look different; the information asked is the same: server name, username (full email address), password, security type and port.
I also want to synchronize calendars and contacts
Choose Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync as the account type. The server is mail.yourdomain.com, the username is your full email address and the secure connection (SSL) must be ticked. For this account type Android may ask for an additional device administrator permission. If you would like to go step by step, choose Android and Exchange (ActiveSync) in the setup wizard.
I receive mail but cannot send
In the outgoing server settings the Require sign-in box is not ticked. Tick it, enter the username and password and check that the port is 587.
The mail I sent does not show on my other devices
If you use IMAP, the Sent, Deleted and Drafts folders must be mapped to the folders on the server. Map them under Advanced > Mailbox Behaviors on iPhone, More Settings > Folders in Outlook and Account Settings > Copies and Folders in Thunderbird. If you use POP3, sent mail stays only on that device anyway; if you use more than one device, switch to IMAP.
What should I do if port 587 is blocked?
Some hotel, café and mobile networks block port 587. In that case, try port 465 with SSL/TLS for the outgoing server. If both are blocked, you need to ask your network administrator; unencrypted port 25 is not used for client sending.
