What Do Devolutions Products Do?
In a non-technical sentence: they let you manage the company's passwords and server connections from a single place, with a record of who accessed what. If the situations below sound familiar, this is exactly the problem it solves.

Devolutions brings these together in a single vault
All passwords and connection details sit in a central vault. When a user wants to connect, they do not see or copy the password: the application sends it in the background while the session opens. So the employee does their job and never touches the password.
You grant the authority: who will see which vault, who can connect to which server. When staff leave, all you have to do is close their account; since there is no password they know, you don't need to chase after it. Every access is recorded: the answer to "who connected, when and with which account" sits in the panel. What's more, opened sessions can be recorded as video; whether it is an outside support company or your own IT team, what was done on screen can be reviewed afterwards.

The workspace is set up
You decide where the data will live: Devolutions Cloud (in the cloud, no installation) or Devolutions Server (on your own server).
Vaults and permissions are defined
Vaults are created per department or customer; who sees which vault is set by role. Your Active Directory / Entra ID users can be imported.
Users install the application
Password Manager or Remote Desktop Manager is installed on the computer and an extension is added to the browser. The same account opens on the phone too.
Connections open with one click
You pick the server from the list and click; the session opens, the password is sent in the background and the activity is logged.

Licensing is per user with an annual commitment; standard support (first response within 48 hours) and access to Devolutions Academy are included in all packages. In Devolutions you first choose the workspace: managed in the cloud or on your own server. Remote Desktop Manager, Password Manager and PAM work with the same features in both options.

What It Looks Like in Daily Use

All connections in a single window
The connection tree from the vault on the left, tabbed sessions on top. RDP, SSH, web console and cloud connections on the same screen; the password is sent without asking the user.
Vaults, folders, permissions
Vaults per department or customer; each record's permissions, history and audit log are visible on the same screen. Hidden fields are not shown to those without permission.
Access request (checkout)
The administrator account is requested for a limited time: the approver, duration, JIT privilege group, ticket number and MFA code are on the same screen. When the time expires, the privilege is automatically revoked.

A simplified list for non-technical users: they pick the record to connect to and the session opens. The password is not visible and no configuration is needed.

Whoever Connected, What They Did Is on Record
Granting access without sharing the password is not enough on its own; what the connected person does on screen must also be reviewable. In Devolutions, sessions can be recorded as video and recording can be made mandatory.
Outside support companies
Your supplier, software company or consultant connects to your server without ever learning the password: the credential is sent from the vault into the session, does not appear on their screen and does not land on their clipboard.
Everything they do during the connection is recorded as video. When the job is done, you simply close the access; since there is no password they know, you don't have to rush to change passwords afterwards. Together with PAM, you can grant access for a limited time from the start and have the privilege automatically revoked when the time expires.
In-house IT team
The same arrangement applies to your own system administrators. Sessions opened to servers, network devices or databases are recorded.
When a setting changes or something unexpected happens, you open the recording and watch it step by step. This creates evidence for internal audit and regulation, and also makes it easier for the team to learn from each other; it answers "what was done" without blaming anyone.
Technical side of the recording
- Sessions that can be recorded: RDP, SSH, VNC, ARD (Apple Remote Desktop), Telnet, file transfer sessions (SFTP, SCP, FTP), web sessions and management interfaces such as iDRAC/iLO
- Recording format: .webm video (one frame per second) and an additional file for the Remote Desktop Manager player
- Viewing: from the recordings tab in RDM or from the Devolutions Gateway web interface; the player can be scrubbed forward and scales to the window size
- Storage: on the local disk or on a central recording server (Devolutions Server); traffic can be routed through Gateway
- Mandatory recording mode: if recording cannot start, the session does not open at all. The user cannot connect by turning off recording
- When used with PAM, the recording is matched with the access request and the ticket number
